Please note that the if four prices are stated against a wine, then these are firstly for a small glass (175ml), then a large glass (250ml), a 500ml carafe and finally a bottle. If there is only one price, then the wine is only available by the bottle. Valle Perdido 'oaked' Chardonnay 2007 (Argentina) - £3.65, £5.10, £10.10, £14.95 This lightly oaked Chardonnay is from the heart of the Neuquen region of Patagonia in southern Argentina. Intense and bright, with aromas of hazelnuts, tropical fruits and citrus and vanilla notes. Juicy and buttery on the palate, beautifully balanced and followed by a rich and persistent finish. Water Wheel ‘Memsie’ Sauvignon Semillon Roussanne 2007 (Australia) - £17.95 The wine is crystal clear in appearance, with tropical fruit characters on the nose, as well as lime and melon, which are balanced with hints of herbaciousness. Richmond Ridge Colombard Chardonnay 2006 (Australia) - £2.90, £3.95, £7.75, £11.40 This wine has light aromatic notes from the Colombard grape and then shows typical passionfruit and melon characteristics, due to the addition of unwooded Chardonnay to add peach and lime notes on the palate. Phillips Viognier 2005 (California) - £23.95 The aromatic Viognier variety is both subtle and seductive exhibiting fragrant peach and apricot aromas. Denbies Surrey Gold 2006 (England) - £21.95 Surrey Gold is a blend of Ortega, Muller Thurgau and Bacchus grapes from this large English Vineyard situated on the Surrey hills near Dorking. Deliciously fragrant, medium dry white wine which is rich in fruit flavours with a floral aroma. It finishes well on the palate with subtle hints of spice. Serve with... perfect with any meal or on its own. Verdicchio Classico 2006 (Italy) - £3.45, £4.75, £9.45, £14.00 A fine consistent straw yellow colour with greenish nuances. On the nose it expresses the vineyard and the land with its fruit and grass notes. An easy drinking wine full of character and freshness. Serve with... ideal with pasta, charcuterie platter, and sauced poultry and veal. Pinot Grigio ‘Portenova’ 2007 (Italy) - £3.15, £4.35, £8.65, £12.75 This is a typical Pinot Grigio from northeast Italy with a brilliant straw yellow colour, elegant perfume of acacia flowers, almonds and dried fruit. A soft, well-balanced palate combines citrus, exotic fruit and fresh apples. Elegant and dry. Serve with... an ideal accompaniment to hors d'oeuvres, fish dishes, soups and white meats. De Feudis Verdeca 2007 (Italy) - £2.50, £3.40, £6.75, £9.95 Harvested from vineyards in the hills near San Marzano and Taranto in the Puglia region of Southern Italy. Pinot Grigio Chardonnay Il Barco 2006 (Italy) - £2.60, £3.60, £7.15, £10.50 This Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay blend is attractive and easy drinking with a delicate peachy aroma and soft, ripe fruit. It has a nutty and rich buttery character derived from Chardonnay and fresh, well balanced apple and pear flavours on the finish. Bald Hills ‘Pigeon Rocks’ Pinot Gris 2006 (New Zealand) - £26.50 Grown on the small ‘Pigeon Rocks’ vineyard on the northern end of the Bald Hills property. This cool climate white is hand made by winemaker Grant Taylor to deliver the natural fruit intensity of the terroir. Gently pressed after picking, the grapes then undergo a long cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks. This ensure that the wine delivers a lovely honey and lychee scented aroma, before jumping to a refreshing grapefruity and pear flavour with strong mineral characters. Casa do Lago Fernao Pires Blanco 2007 (Portugal) - £2.50, £3.40, £6.75, £9.95 Dry and medium bodied, perfectly ripe grapes have given this wine a pronounced fresh aroma and an excellent balance of mouth filling green appley and melon fruit with an unusual white pepper-like spice. A good long finish that had a refreshing citrus tang. Serve with... excellent on its own or with food, especially grilled sardines. Backsberg Chenin Blanc 2007 (South Africa) - £3.10, £4.25, £8.45, £12.50 From the heart of South Africa’s best region for Chenin Blanc, comes a zippy ‘clean shaven’ wine infused with the flavours of lemon and green apples. Inhale its beautiful bouquet of fruit aromas and brace yourself for the pleasure of its crisp, balanced character and refreshing, lingering finish. Serve with... crayfish, river fish and smoked salmon or duck. Albariño Condes de Albarei 2007 (Spain) - £19.95 This Albariño is rich and lively, with enticing flavours of pineapple, grapefruit and melon supported by a refreshing minerality. Not unlike a chablis in style it has a lively freshness with a creamy finish. The Albariño grape variety thrives on its cool coastal location and produces fresh elegant wines with a captivating floral bouquet and peach flavours. It is believed that Albariño is a distant relative to the Riesling grape with which it shares a fresh racy acidity. Serve with... the high acidity makes this wine a perfect accompaniment to fish and shellfish, especially lobster. Pisano Rio de Los Pajaros Torrontes 2007 (Uruguay) - £3.65, £5.10, £10.10, £14.95 Pale golden yellow in colour, a complex and generous bouquet with suggestive honey and spice aromas. Fresh, crisp and well balanced on the palate. It was recently awarded the trophy for ‘best Torrontes produced in South America’. .Serve with.. wonderful as an aperitif and great with rich creamy seafood dishes. Organic White Wine Domaine de la Bergerie Sauvignon de Touraine 2007 (France) - £3.65, £5.10, £10.10, £14.95 Winemaker and owner Jacky Marteau is one of the Loire Valley’s finest exponents of the Sauvignon Blanc grape capturing the expressive gooseberry flavours whilst retaining an excellent balance of flavour and clean zingy finish. Serve with... a fresh aperitif and good accompaniment to shellfish and river fish. Laibach Chardonnay Chenin Viognier ‘The Ladybird’ 2007 (South Africa) - £21.95 This is very much an experimental wine and is the farm’s first effort to make an organic white wine to partner the acclaimed Ladybird red. The Chardonnay and Viognier were co-fermented in oak barrels and then the Chenin was blended at the time of bottling. The wine has good dimensions of nuts, white peach and hints of paw-paw and a fresh aroma. Expressive on the palate with a lingering aftertaste. Almost a creamy acidity makes this an incredibly appealing dry white wine. NOTE: this wine is not yet officially certified organic but will achieve this status in the next few years.
